Balance Is a Myth. Seasonality Is How Real Humans Lead.
Some people are still talking about "balance" like it's something we're all supposed to be chasing, but the best leaders I know aren't focused on living a perfectly balanced life.
I've spent the past few months deep in conversations about balance and boundaries with leaders, and here's what I keep coming back to: balance isn't real, and life doesn't unfold in perfect proportions.
Much like the natural world around us, we're meant to live and work in seasons.
Some seasons ask us to stretch- to lead big projects, show up for our teams, and navigate changes that feel bigger than us. Other seasons ask us to rest, to pull back, protect our energy, and reconnect with our core needs. Some seasons are just messy and tender and somewhere in the in between.
The best leaders I work with who are thriving aren't the ones chasing a perfectly even life. They're the ones who can say: "This is the season I'm in, and I'm going to meet myself here with intention"- without guilt, self-judgment, or blame.
Balance is a myth. Seasonality is how real humans lead.
